Whenever essential oils are ‘mixed’ with water without a dispersing agent, there is a risk of irritation, since undiluted droplets of essential oil attach to the skin, often in sensitive areas.

Effectiveness as Therapeutic Targets against Human Viruses. Although it has been shown that the main effect of 1,8-cineole is the anti-inflammatory activity through IκBα- and JNK-dependent inhibition of NF-κ B p65 and NF-κ B, multiple studies have reported activity against a variety of RNA and DNA viruses. Most experiments in vitro, in vivo, and in silico models refer to the activity against enveloped viruses, in particular, HSV-1 and HSV-2, and, to a greater extent, influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2. Also, it is noteworthy that the compound demonstrated clinical efficacy in patients diagnosed with severe bronchial asthma generating anti-inflammatory, mucolytic, and spasmolytic effects as well as reducing exacerbations and dyspnea in patients with COPD.
